| 2 | 1551 - Eu Topic: The Eumedis Initiative EUMEDIS stands for Euro-Mediterranean Information Society. EUMEDIS dedicated website can be found at: http://www.eumedis.org.dz/. The European Commission launched this programme on February 22, 1999 in order to extend the development of the Information Society in the Mediterranean region by supporting a range of infrastructure, applications and technical support programmes. Indeed, Internet connectivity is a relatively scarce resource in the 12 Mediterranean partner countries, which are Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. The overall EUMEDIS objectives are: (i) accelerate the economic growth in the Euro-Mediterranean region, (ii) improve the quality of life for the people of the Mediterranean region, (iii) simulate Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, (iv) facilitate mutual understanding in a multi cultural and multi lingual environment, (v) promote innovation in public services, (vi) increase interconnectivity among Euro-Mediterranean Partners and (vii) create end-user oriented electronic platforms. A newsletter of the Information Society Technologies dedicated to the EUMEDIS Programme can be found at: ftp://ftp.cordis.lu/pub/ist/docs/int_newsletter_issue_6.doc.IBLS Editorial Board Staff Attorney View details... | 6/5/2003 3:40:56 PM |
