Thomson Gale (www.gale.com) signed a distribution agreement with Internet Business Law Services (IBLS) to make IBLS I-Law database content accessible through a variety of Thomson Gale channels. IBLS content consists of easy-to-understand information on Internet and e-commerce laws and regulations around the world. Thomson Gale will make this content available in Thomson Gale business databases and through several of its current distribution partners.

Internet Business Law Services (www.ibls.com) provides legal information on issues relating to the Internet and e-commerce. Content is available via database subscription and through online education courses, licensed to academic institutions throughout the world. IBLS headquarters is located in Irvine, Calif.; there are also offices in Barcelona, Spain; Brussels, Belgium; and Miami. IBLS said the increased distribution of I-Law content will enhance the exposure that IBLS Charter Partners obtain for the articles that they contribute to the I-Law database. The IBLS Charter Partnership program lets global law firms and individual attorneys showcase their expertise in Internet and e-commerce law.

Quarterly Theme - Intellectual Property and the Internet

IBLS is continuing with its quarterly theme on Internet and E-Commerce Law with the focus on "Intellectual Property and the Internet". A selected theme is covered in a special article from the IBLS database.

This month's article focuses on copyright infringement and it was prepared by IBLS Editorial Board, Staff Attorney. The title is: "FIGHTING IP CYBERCRIMES, INTERNET USAGE MONITORING WITHIN ORGANIZATIONS"

Intellectual Property Cybercrimes (IP Cybercrimes) actions carry significant penalties, and thus every organization should make sure that measures are put into place to prevent copyright infringement. Organizations can prevent this type of legal issue by monitoring the use of the Internet by their employees.

The following questions have been addressed in this article:

  • Do IP Cybercrimes Constitute a Significant Threat?
  • What can Organizations Do?
  • What Should Email and Internet Policies Contain?
  • Practically, How can Internet Usage be Monitored?
  • What about Copyright Infringement Audits?
