Diploma Program in Global Cybercrime Law announces a Guest Lecturer from the U.S. Department of Justice IBLS is pleased to announce that Ms. Kimberly B. Kiefer from the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS) of the Criminal Division of the United States Department of Justice will be a guest lecturer for the IBLS Diploma Program in Global Cybercirme Law. This is an Online Program scheduled to start January 15th,2005.
Ms. Kiefer practices in the area of investigating and prosecuting computer network cases, such as computer hacking, and enforcing intellectual property rights, such as software piracy. Ms. Kiefer is also co-chair of the ABA Information Security Committee, and a frequent author and speaker in the areas of information privacy, information security, computer crime, and intellectual property.
The Criminal Division develops, enforces, and supervises the application of all federal criminal laws except those specifically assigned to other divisions. The Division, and the 93 U.S. Attorneys have the responsibility for overseeing criminal matters under more than 900 statutes as well as certain civil litigation. Criminal Division attorneys prosecute many nationally significant cases. In addition to its direct litigation responsibilities, the Division formulates and implements criminal enforcement policy and provides advice and assistance. For example, the Division approves or monitors sensitive areas of law enforcement such as participation in the Witness Security Program and the use of electronic surveillance; advises the Attorney General, Congress, the Office of Management Budget and the White House on matters of criminal law; provides legal advice and assistance to federal prosecutors and investigative agencies; and provides leadership for coordinating international as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement matters.
Today, computer crime is much more than the unpleasantness of offensive advertising. Fraud and intellectual property crimes cost e-commerce substantial amounts in lost profits. The common activities of young hackers creating and launching viruses over e-mail connections pale when compared to the committed cyber terrorist, or the damage caused when identity theft results in the loss of your home. Earning the Diploma in Global Cybercrime Law will advance knowledge and business skills of online professionals in a variety of fields; including, but not limited to, banking, information technology, Security Systems Management, Public Sectors, Private Sectors, Retail and other business executives and entrepreneurs who need to protect their online presence against Cybercrimes.
The curriculum of IBLS Diploma in Global Cybercrime Law is designed to show:
- How to protect against Internet Fraud?
- The use of encryption and cryptography and how it impacts privacy and security issues?
- How to defend against cyber stalking and online harassment?
- How can banks, online retailers and consumers protect themselves against fraudulent e-mails?
- What constitutional concerns are raised by intellectual property
cybercrimes?
- What different govt. statutes regulate criminal activities related to cybercrimes?
- What are the international cyber-crime initiatives?
This twelve week Program will bring together experts from different government agencies around the world, executives from international corporations, online securities experts, information technology consultants as well as Internet and E-Commerce legal professionals who are part of IBLS network of Charter Partners, to share their knowledge, expertise and advice in this very important area of online e-commerce.
