Diploma in Offshore E-Commerce Law; Announcing the First Guest Lecturer

IBLS is pleased to announce that Mr. Tim Craine, the Isle of Man Government’s Director of E-Business, will be the first guest lecturer in Diploma Program in Offshore E-Commerce Law. Mr. Craine is directly responsible to the Treasury Minister and has taken lead responsibility for developing, promoting and implementing an E-business Strategy for the Isle of Man. As a Graduate of Durham University where he attained an Honours Degree, Mr. Craine returned to the Isle of Man in 1979 and joined the Isle of Man Government as a Civil Servant. Immediately prior to being appointed E-Business Director, Mr. Craine was Cabinet Secretary to the Isle of Man Government, where he was also involved in strategic economic policy formulation and acted as an adviser to the Chief Minister.

During his career in the Civil Service, Tim Craine has been involved in different areas of E-Business and E-Society Strategy some of which will be topics for Program’s discussion.

The Diploma in Offshore E-Commerce Law has been developed and customized with the specific needs of the online community in mind – timely information that can be immediately used for e-business practice. Experts and experienced practitioners, from around the world, have created the materials for the Offshore E-Commerce Diploma. This 12-week Program is scheduled to begin on June 1, 2004. It will be taught via online instruction, discussion boards, and weekly projects, all part of the dynamic online interaction.

Quarterly Theme - Online Privacy

Continuing with this month's newsletter, IBLS is presenting a quarterly theme on one of the most important aspects of Internet and E-Commerce Law. A selected theme is covered in a special summary from the IBLS database. This month’s summary focuses on the challenges in regulating online privacy laws with respect to Employees' Privacy Rights.

Online privacy has become a sizzling topic. The question remains as to what rights one has in viewing information over the Internet. Whether it is from making a transaction over the Internet to searching the web from an employers' computer, many issues come into play when privacy issues are challenged. This summary deals with the various challenges surrounding these important issues as well as describes the employees' privacy rights under the federal law.
