Government Positions on E-Commerce to be Highlighted at IBLS' Strategic Global Summit For E-Commerce
The Strategic Global Summit For E-Commerce,
being held September 18-19, 2003, in San Juan Capistrano, California, will feature speakers from the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Asia, sharing their ideas and expertise on the future of E-Commerce.
Included among the speakers are government representatives who will explain how their governments are tackling the regulations concerning E-Commerce growth and challenges.
IBLS is pleased to announce U.S. Federal Trade Commissoner
Mozelle W. Thompson as the keynote speaker. In addition, Mr. Jorge E. Vargas, the Director of E--Government from Colombia's Vice President's office, will also be speaking.

IBLS Distinguished Legal Writing Award Competition Announced For 2003 One of the ways IBLS recognizes the quality and importance of summary contributions is with the IBLS Distinguished Legal Writing Award. This award is presented annually to the author of the summary judged to best convey the spirit, quality, and educational aspects of the legalities to doing business online.
December is the last month for Charter Partners to submit summaries that can be eligible for the 2003 IBLS Distinguished Legal Writing Award.
The summaries are available in the IBLS database and are also accessible via the IBLS Global Law Portals, including the U.S. Law Portal, the EU Law Portal, the Latin America Law Portal, and the Asia Pacific Law Portal. There are numerous sample summaries available at each site for your review.
Past winners include:
For 2001, the award went to Shakeel Kudrolli of Rawell & Kudrolli in Bombay, India.
For 2002, Alpers & Stenger of Hamburg, Germany was the recipient.
The Distinguished Legal Writing Award winner receives 500 stock options in International Business Law Services, as well as having their summary highlighted in the email newsletter, and on the home page of IBLS.

Is Virtual Gambling Legal in France? - An IBLS Database Summary French law prohibits any games involving money, with very restrictive exceptions. Owners of virtual casinos therefore face serious risks of criminal sanctions when these casinos are accessible from France. Joe Weber named Director of U.S. Law for IBLS IBLS is pleased to announce its newest Regional Law Director, Joe Weber. Mr. Weber brings with him many years of experience, including working as IBLS' securities attorney, and looks forward to his position as Director of the U.S. Law Portal.
"The U.S. has a myriad of regulations concerning Internet Law", Weber said. "With States such as California seeking to carve out tax schemes for E-Commerce, and other States taking a much more hands off approach to e-Business, it is crucial that lawyers and businesses stay informed as to the changes tkaing place on both the State and Federal level", Weber added.
As Director of the U.S. Law Portal, Mr. Weber will coordinate with the IBLS Charter Partners in the U.S. on their latest summary contributions to the database and work on the "Topics of the Week", updating the resources for those looking for quick answers to their Internet Law regulation questions.
