Regulatory Framework For E-commerce In The European Union

With the adoption of the EU Directive on electronic commerce on 8 June 2000, new business opportunities finally received their long awaited legal framework. Besides certain rules concerning transparency and consumer protection, the Directive sets out the legal foundations for electronic commerce.

The following questions have been addressed in this article:

Are all services provided over the Internet covered by this Directive?
If I establish my operation’s centre in Germany may e.g. Spanish authorities restrict the cross-border provision of my services?
Is it allowed to send publicity to consumers?
I am a host and one day I receive an email saying that I am hosting copyright infringing material. Can I be held Liable?
If a third party asks me to take down a infringing material from one of my servers, what can I do?
