Tax Policy and E-Commerce in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is quickly following new developments in the information technology sector. Further to these developments, and due to the globalization of the Bulgarian economy, e-commerce is rapidly replacing a substantial part of the traditional trade in Bulgaria. Bulgarian tax policy objectives include measures that are aimed to augment the collection of taxes and the enlargement of Bulgaria's budget, by encouraging voluntary payments on behalf of tax payers. The trade Policies of Bulgaria are shaped primarily by the demands of its World Trade Organization (WTO) membership. Another factor in the development of Bulgarian e-commerce is Bulgaria's accession to the European Union as of January 1, 2007.
