Austria Enjoys Monopolistic Gambling

The Government of Austria has established a monopoly in the gambling industry, instead of completely banning it. Along with public order and socio-political objectives, regulation and control was also pleaded as a justification for the State’s monopoly. The monopoly was alleged to be only theoretically adequate for achieving the aim of protection of consumers and social order. The Glücksspielgesetz (GSpG) is the Australian Federal gambling law.
