Cyprus, a member of the European Union (EU) since 2004, has the lowest tax regime in the EU. There are three value added tax (VAT) rates in Cyprus, the standard rate of 15 per cent, introduced on January 1, 2003, the reduced rate is of 5 per cent that came into force on January 1, 2000, and a zero rating for certain goods and services.
