Privacy And The Conservation Of Telecommunication Data

The new Italian Privacy Code underwent amendments even before it came into force on January 1st 2004. The changes relate to the conservation period of telephone traffic data by service providers.

The amendments not only lengthen the conservation period of traffic data but also enlarge the operational scope of telephone traffic monitoring to include Internet traffic.

The Legislative Decree 354/2003 has modified three (3) sections of the Privacy Code (s. 132, 181 and 182). These measures were already in force when the Privacy Act was adopted.
