La Topic: Internet Service Providers In Mexico: Legislation And Facts

The Mexican Government has not enacted a specific Internet Service Providers (ISP) regulation yet. Nonetheless, the Federal Telecommunication Law (FTL) of 1995 is the regulatory law of ISP in Mexico. There are some groups working on two Internet initiatives called “Internet 2- Mexico” and “I 2-Mexico Project;” but they have not produce any final legislation. The Secretary of Telecommunication, through the Federal Telecommunication Commission (COFETEL), is the government body in charge of telecommunication systems in Mexico, including Internet services. COFETEL implements and seeks compliance of the FTL rules. Following are the FTL rules applicable to Internet Service Providers in Mexico and some facts about Internet use.
