Data State Inspection And Protection Of Personal Data In Latvia

In Latvia, the rules of protection of personal data are stated in the Personal Data Protection Law of June March 23, 2000 (the “Personal Data Protection Law,”) which came into full force on January 1, 2001 when the supervisory authority of personal data procession, the Data State Inspection (“DSI”) was established. The principle of establishment of the DSI derives from fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution, such as the right to inviolability of private life, home and correspondence.
