Andean Community Subsidy Policies

The Andean Community has become very important in Latin America in the development of trade strategies and tariff policies as well with the protection of industrial property and the harmonization of customs. The Andean Community had passed a series of provisions for preventing or counteracting distortions in competition in the Subregion produced by dumping and subsidies, practices that restrict free competition, and others with a similar effect. However transportation issues and different currency rates between countries may have an effect on the different competitive practices such as dumping and subsidies.

The following questions have been addressed in this article:

How are subsidies evaluated?
What are the investigation periods to examine subsidies?
Do any countries have any extenuating factors that must be considered?
What about the differences in exchange rates?
