The Diminishment Of Public Accountability And Due Process By Increasing Government Secrecy

The USA Patriot Bill once it was introduced was a heavily debated piece of legislation. The legislation has not been proposed with modifications due to changing concerns of terrorism activities and public safety. Title II of the amended bill tends to diminish public accountability and due process by increasing governmental secrecy. This amendment seeks to not give potential people that will be charged with criminal activities the right to receive a fair and impartial trial with the constitutional protections that have been elaborated in the U.S. Constitution as well as causing an undue burden to grand jurors who may be imposed with a “gag order” and the loss of the chance to defend themselves.
