The online identity theft in chat rooms can hold criminal liability for impersonating another person under either forgery, fraud, or identity theft. Online identify theft has been addressed by legislation and criminal and civil prosecution. The sharing of personal information has resulted in numerous fraudulent activities and has prompted the necessity to pass the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
