The World Customs Organization is an independent intergovernmental body that has had a major impact on the harmonization of different international standards and ensuring that trade regulations are followed and that trade barriers are eliminated. The Kyoto Convention was meant to be a blueprint for effective international trade practices but with the increasing use of international and the changes in technology, this legislation had to be revised to reflect changes in the trade industry and to allow Customs to be able to remain effective.
