The Electronic Signature Directive Of The European Union

Up to now a problem for the commercial and non-commercial traffic on the Internet was the lack of identification of the opponent. In order to inspire confidence in the identity of the opponent, high safety measures are required. In January 2000 the European Directive on the Framework Conditions for Electronic Signatures was enacted. The directive was implemented into German law.

The following questions have been addressed in this article:

How was the directive implemented into German law?
Does an electronic signature prove the formation of the contract?
What provides reliablity of digital signatures?
How are electronic signatures certified?
Is it possible to temporarly block the certificate?
